FAQ

The Unconference of Hope and Bold School Climate Action

Frequently Asked Questions

What do we mean by an “unconference”?

An unconference is a participant-centred event with a focus on interaction, experiential learning and collaboration. In April, the emphasis will be on creating learning opportunities for groups who don’t usually learn or “conference” together, including students, teachers, parents, administrators and more – a truly intergenerational gathering.

When is the unconference?

The unconference begins on Wednesday, April 3rd at 7:00 pm with our opening keynote by Elin Kelsey, PhD, author, and thought leader in evidence-based hope. The unconference continues Thursday through Saturday – see the schedule outlined under the Program and Speakers tab. People can register to attend for one, two or all three days.

What is the pre-unconference event?

Additional pre-unconference event on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 10am to 4pm at Hillfield Strathallan College. A bus to and from the Hamilton Convention Center and lunch are included. Session overview:

Biomimicry for Climate Action

Applying the principles of Biomimicry Design Thinking through their participation and collaboration in a design jam, participants will generate innovative ideas for regenerative climate action.

Who will be attending this unconference?

Growing the REgeneration is designed for leaders working or learning in K-12 schools, including students, teachers, administrators, facilities managers, board members, and parents. We are building a community of practice for whole-school, hope-filled, regenerative climate action.

Will there be opportunities for networking?

Networking and connecting with fellow attendees is important. Please note networking time has been built into meals, which are served in the Webster room.

Please drop by the student-run Sus Hub located on the third floor near the Webster room.

What do I need to bring to the unconference?

Please dress comfortably and wear layers as the temperature in Hamilton in April can vary widely. Remember your reusable water bottle & coffee/tea mug!

Pack light – it reduces emissions and makes getting from one place to another much easier!

The Unconference will be following all local public health department instructions. At this time there are no alerts for the Hamilton area. Should this change, we’ll be in contact.
