Thanks to all who contributed to our spring 2025 pilot!

We piloted a dynamic parent series on climate action in schools!

DoorNumberOne.org collaborated with For Our Kids, a parent-led network of volunteers driven to take climate action for our kids, grandkids and future generations.

We worked together to support parents and grandparents in their work to influence greater climate action in schools and school boards/districts. We did so by creating our Schools Climate Action Lab – a 3-session pilot designed to empower people with the know-how and network to make a real difference in their school community. The participation and feedback in these pilot sessions has directly shaped future iterations of the project.

What is the School Climate Action Lab?

This dynamic online lab is designed to empower parents with the knowledge, resources, and connections needed to champion climate action within their school communities. Over three engaging sessions, participants gain:

  • Practical ideas and entry points for initiating conversations and building support for climate initiatives, including getting fossil fuels out of schools and addressing extreme heat.
  • Insights into mapping your school’s community to identify entry points to either start or build upon.
  • Examples on how to align climate action with school board/district strategic priorities.
  • Insights into effectively communicating with parent councils, administrators, and school boards.
  • Strategies for mobilizing other parents, gathering allies and organizing a network for change.
  • Understanding of how to lead the change and advocate for climate action plans in schools.
